Guru Amar Das asked Guru Ram Das to Build a man made pool ( Sarovar ) in the centre and start a new town around the pool. Guru Ram Das faced opposition from Sons of Guru Amar Das but in 1954 after his coronation as the fourth Guru of Sikh, He built the pool and founded the town around it.
The city came into its glory during the time of Guru Arjan Dev ji and many merchants and people started to settle in the city. Town then started to grow and became the city of Amritsar.
