Chandigarh – The City Beautiful is a marvel planned and designed by Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier and American Architect Albert Mayer. The city was named after Chandi Mata a hindu goddess of power and the name means Fortress (Garh) of Chandi and it was derived from Chandi Mandir ( Old Temple Of Chandi Mata ) near Panchkula city. 

Post independence Chandigarh is one of the earliest planned cities and is internationally known for its architecture and modern design. After partition when Lahore had become a part of Pakistan and Shimla was serving as a capital to Punjab. Then It was Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru who wanted to build a new and modern city to serve as capital of Punjab state. A perfect location with plenty of natural resources in the foothills of Shivalik range of Himalayas was identified and Planning and execution was started in 1949 and in 1953 Chandigarh got its status of capital of Punjab state. In 1966 when the State of Haryana was formed, Chandigarh started to serve as a shared capital for both Punjab and Haryana.

The city covers an area of around 114 square kilometres and is at an altitude of 1054 Ft from sea level. Chandigarh is Divided in 56 sectors, city is well planned with dedicated residential, Industrial and commercial spaces designed without affecting the green belt and nature. Many gardens dedicated to almost every sector adds to the natural beauty of Chandigarh. Still the Chandigarh administration is very strict in terms of preserving the Trees and forest area in and around the city.

Chandigarh has grown very fast since its initial construction. It has also impacted the development of nearby cities of Mohali and Panchkula. The city is having one of the highest per capita incomes in the country. Chandigarh is one of the few master-planned cities in the world to have succeeded in terms of combining monumental architecture, maintaining greenery, cultural growth, and modernisation.

Covered by dense plantations and Trees of banyan, eucalyptus, ashoka, mulberry, cassia and many others. Chandigarh offers a perfect balance of nature and modern lifestyle. Two sides of the city are surrounded by dense forest and offers a perfect habitat For many animals, birds and plant species. In 1988 the forest area around sukhna tributary and lake was declared as a wildlife sanctuary to protect many animals and birds like Deer, Leopard, parrots, peacock, woodpecker and many migratory birds visiting in winters from Siberia and Japan.

Chandigarh has an excellent road network connected by National Highways To neighbouring States of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and Delhi. dedicated and ample parking in every sector and market, travelling by road is fun. The City has Two Interstate Bus Stands, ISBT Sector 43 and ISBT Sector 17. Nowadays ISBT 43 is The main Bus Stand for interstate commute and Buses from State transport of Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal, Uttarakhand And Uttar Pradesh, Frequently operates to various destinations. 

The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) is the state public transport body in chandigarh. CTU has a good network of local buses covering all areas of Chandigarh and is a lifeline for daily commuters. The Undertaking has a Large Fleet of Electric Air Conditioned Buses along with ordinary Diesel Buses.

Chandigarh is having a International Airport which is located in Mohali. More than 85 flights of various Airlines operate from the airport daily connecting almost every major city in the country. 

Railway is the most reliable and comfortable way to reach chandigarh. Chandigarh station is the Northern Zone of Indian Railway. Shatabdi and Vande Bharat are few premium trains connecting Chandigarh to Delhi and Amritsar. Chandigarh railway station is on the border of Haryana and also serves Panchkula city.

Developed as a modern hotspot, Chandigarh offers both a luxurious and exciting lifestyle. From a no star hotel to a five star property you will find everything. Depending on your budget you can find a suitable stay option. Most of the top hotels are in sector 22, sector 35, sector 43, sector 17, Zirakpur and budget hotels are located at burail, Attawa and mohali.  

Summers and Monsoon in Chandigarh are very hot and humid. So the best time to visit Chandigarh is from October to April. During this period the weather is pleasant to cold. It’s perfect time to explore the city without worrying about sun and heat.
