• From the airport, you can hire a private or pre-paid taxi. The drive takes about 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the snow conditions.

By Road

• Srinagar to Gulmarg: The last 12-13 km stretch, especially from Tangmarg to Gulmarg, experiences heavy snowfall.
• Special Transport: During peak winter, regular vehicles may be restricted up to Tangmarg. From Tangmarg, you must hire a local vehicle (usually 4×4 jeeps) with snow chains on the tires to safely complete the final ascent to Gulmarg. Many taxis from Srinagar will arrange for a transfer in Tangmarg.
• The road journey itself is scenic, winding through pine forests completely dusted with snow.

By Rail

• Nearest Major Railhead: Jammu Tawi Railway Station (JAT), approximately 290 km away.
• From Jammu, you would need to take a bus or train to Srinagar and then proceed by road to Gulmarg. This is a significantly longer journey than flying directly to Srinagar.

• Layer Up! Temperatures drop well below freezing. Pack heavy woollens, thermal wear, waterproof jackets and pants, gloves, caps, and waterproof snow boots.
• Book Gondola in Advance: Tickets for the Gulmarg Gondola, especially Phase 2, can sell out quickly, so book online ahead of time.
• Hire a Local Guide: For snow activities and trekking to spots like Alpather Lake, hiring an experienced local guide is highly recommended for safety.
