When you leave home you feel excitement. And more than excitement, It’s a learning experience you will get. Travelling makes you smarter, confident and self-sufficient. I suggest everyone around me to travel but traveling doesn’t mean partying, it is something more than that. You will get a better version of you by traveling.

Here I am sharing some of the backpacking tips from my travel experiences. I hope my experiences will help you for your future solo backpacking trip.

Identifying A Perfect destination

The first thing to plan a backpacking trip is to find the destination. You are a traveler not a tourist.Find the place that is offbeat. It may sound scary but you are not the first to do it. There are so many online guides from where you can get the information about the place. Become a slow traveler. Don’t rush to the place. If you are a mountain lover like me,Make time to watch the river flowing, find a cafe from where you can enjoy the mountain view.Slow traveling is far more compelling.

Finding the Right Transportation

Next step for the backpacking trip is looking for transportation. It all depends upon your present living place. If you want to take a flight , pre book your flights or get cheap flight tickets from any digi platform like skyscanner. As I prefer to be a slow traveler I would prefer to take the train journey. For this you must pre book your tickets. Indian road transportation is also very good , you can also opt for thi, depending upon your destination.

Great Accommodation Can Add Wonders

Now you have destination, transportation, your 50% work is done. Next task is to find accommodation which makes your trip more enjoyable. I always prefer to stay in Zostel homes or Homestays, a place a lot of travellers pass through, so that I can talk to them and learn some new things.

and get first hand information about the place i am visiting. There is no better place to find the travelers than hostels. Today we have so many options for hostels, you just need to check the availability online. Another option is home stays, they provide you the best experience of that place, people and their culture.

Plan your Luggage– Less You carry is Better.

For solo backpacking, always pack light. Try not to carry everything you have owned in your home. If you really need anything while traveling, you can buy it on the way. Carrying less luggage makes you learn to live with less resources. Carry those clothes that you can use again and again. Pick things which are most essential because you are not traveling to show off your fancy clothes. Traveling with less luggage also teaches you self- governance.

Go with flow

One thing I have learned from my travel experience is that if your travel journey is unplanned you enjoy it the most. Because when everything is planned, you have to follow the fixed itinerary then there is no room for happy accidents. I suggest you just go with the flow, let’s enjoy the journey and make your happy memories. Make new friends. If you are an introvert no matter where you go, there is a network of travelers you want to be friends with. Take the first step to say “Hello” then everything will fall into its place.Might be they are also solo travelers like you.

When you start traveling solo you meet many people everyday, some people will be strict with you for a long time while others won’t. From them someone will become your life long friend.

Save money while Traveling solo

While traveling you want to save as much money as you want so you can extend your trip. There are so many ways to first choose off season for your destination at this time rates of accommodations are very less.

Find things to do for free while traveling, As you are a solo traveler find group tours in which you save a lot of money.

When you are in a new city, walk and take public transport while traveling.dont spend money on shopping, cafes and beers. Eat food like local people.

Every time you travel, take some extra cash with you for unexpected emergencies. No matter how well planned your trip is, you will never know when the disaster will come like breaking your shoe pair, some medical emergency or losing your pouch.

Right Gears To Plan Your Next Backpacking Trip :

Let’s prepare the general gear you will need for your first backpacking trip.

 ● Good backpack – A big backpack is an essential gear for you. So you should invest in a good quality Bag. It is a one time investment for long term. I have a 65L backpack, which has all the room I need for my 3 month or one month trip.

A Daypack – Now you have a big and good backpack for all your stuff, now you all need a daypack which you will carry on your day trip. It should be light and carry a water bottle, camera gear and other essential stuff. I personally use small Hiking Bag. The best thing is they are also stylish.

Good footwear – Another important gear is comfortable and good quality footwear. Sometimes you should walk on uneven roads, long walks so having good shoes that support your body weight and without having blisters is a must. I recommend comfortable trekking Shoes. Which i always wear while traveling

Electronics – Carry all your essential electronics like a power bank. Extra batteries for your camera, multifunctional charger and travel adaptor.

Clothing – You should prepare your clothing depending upon the weather or your travel destination. For winters prepare your clothing in layers form. The best clothing you can get is from Decathlon.

Security – when you are traveling solo, security is the main issue. For that, always carry a padlock. Divide your cash into several parts and hide it in the place where no one except. Always lock your stuff in hostel or where you stay.
