It’s true that Kashmir is frequently referred to as “paradise on earth.” When you first see how lovely Kashmir is, all other beauty simply fades away or becomes less appealing. Everything about this breathtaking land, including the valley, the mountains, and the river. Keeps enhancing its attractiveness and surprising travelers at every turn. 

The beauty of Kashmir is different in every season whether it’s summer, winter, autumn or fall. For me God wrote the exquisite poetry known as Kashmir while simultaneously experiencing the greatest bliss. The Beauty of the place becomes more enhanced because of the people. With a pulse that can be felt, a heartbeat that can be felt and an expression that can be personified. Kashmir breathes within both natives and visitors. 

Visiting Kashmir is the dream destination of everyone who likes to travel. We visited kashmir ten years back but that was a short trip. So this time we have spared two weeks and decided to explore more places and experience the local culture. 

Our Final itinerary was decided within a day. Firstly we thought to travel by car all the way from Chandigarh to Srinagar. This would take two days so we dropped the plan and decided to travel by air and add two days to our itinerary. 

Well it all depends upon one’s choice. If you want to enjoy snow then January to February would be perfect for you. April is the peak season full of tourists. Personally My preferred month to travel to Kashmir, or really anywhere in the Himalayas, is September. Although the monsoon would be completely over, plenty of vegetation would still be around. The weather will be ideal for a photography vacation, and the scenery will be magnificent.

In September, the temperature begins to drop. In lower locations like Srinagar, the days will continue to be very hot. But the upper reaches of the valley are pleasant. It will be between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius on average. The month of September is regarded as the off-season and is ideal for travelers on a budget. 

Srinagar is the gateway to Kashmir and to Must Visit Places in Kashmir. You have the option to travel by car or take a flight to get to Srinagar, depending on your personal preferences and available time. 

There are two ways to reach Srinagar one is the Jammu-Srinagar highway is the most popular and well-known road from Jammu. The other is Mughal Road, which is less well-known, less frequently traveled, and more picturesque. I’ll describe both. 

By Jammu Srinagar Highway 

This is the road that leads to Udhampur, Patnitop, and Anantnag, as well as the renowned Jawahar Tunnel. You should easily need 10 to 11 hours to accomplish the roughly 270-kilometer excursion. 

By Mughal Road 

You must travel through Akhnoor to get to Rajouri from Jammu. The historic Mughal route can be found at the small town of Bafliaz, which is a short distance after Rajouri. 

The challenging but breathtakingly beautiful drive to Peer ki Gali, the high-altitude pass on this road, begins immediately after Bafliaz. You go 40 kilometers straight after Peer ki Gali to Shopian, where the Mughal road comes to an end. 

The fastest and most convenient method to go to Srinagar is by plane. Sheikh-ul-Alam Airport, which is located around 10 km from the center of Srinagar, is the city’s own airport. 

There is a train station in Srinagar, however it is not yet fully functional and connected. Udhampur is currently only accessible by train.

You must then take a bus or a taxi from Udhampur to Ramban. You will then take another train from Ramban to Srinagar once you arrive there. 

Thus, the simplest route would be to take a shared taxi or bus straight from Udhampur to Srinagar. As an alternative, you can take the train to Jammu and then the bus from Jammu to Srinagar. 

1. Srinagar 

The Sanskrit words “Sri” and “Nagar,” which together indicate “city,” and “Lakshmi,” or prosperity, respectively, are the source of the name Srinagar. According to some historians, King Ashoka of the Mauryan dynasty constructed this city, which at the time was located close to the Pandrethan hamlet. The settlement was located 5 km from the northern edge of modern-day Srinagar.

2. Gulmarg

Pahalgam, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kashmir, has a lot to offer. The quiet murmurs of the Lidder River meandering peacefully through town and the stunning view from the Aaru Valley are only two examples of the majesty of nature throughout this place. Among the numerous fascinating locations to see in Kashmir are the unspoiled Sheshnag Lake and the serene beauty of Betaab Valley. 

Adventure enthusiasts are attracted to Pahalgam by the wide range of hiking, fishing, and river rafting options available. Its gorgeous scenery has also been used as the setting for several Bollywood films, giving your trip a bit of a bollywood feel. 

One of the must-see locations in Jammu & Kashmir is the Betaab Valley. Which offers a wonderful chance to experience the allure of a rural lifestyle against the stunning backdrop of the Himalayas.

5. Sonmarg 

As its name implies, Sonamarg is well-known as the “Meadow of Gold.” Its attractions include hiking trails with undulating terrain and an endless stream of magnificent flowers. Sonamarg’s captivating atmosphere and jaw-dropping vistas make it a must-visit location for any traveler visiting Kashmir. 

You will feel as though you are pursuing angels when you encounter jagged glaciers, picturesque rural vistas, emerald meadows, cool alpine lakes, and peaceful nature hikes. It’s the location where you’ll feel most fully alive. 

6. Aru Valley 

Any traveler to Kashmir must see the picturesque Aru Valley. Aru Valley is a marvel of mother nature’s magical weaving, a scene out of a fairy tale. Situated just 12 kilometers away from Pahalgam, this small village perfectly captures the allure of Kashmir’s must-visit locations.Among these magnificent mountains are innumerable meadows, all more lovely than the previous and scattered with vivid wildflowers that sway in time to the soft sound of the soft mountain breeze. 

For those who love adventure, Aru Valley is a haven. There are plenty of exciting activities to partake in, such as trekking, horseback riding, and the exhilarating sport of river rafting. It also acts as the beginning point for hikes to the Tarsar-Marsar lakes and the Kolahoi glacier. 

Located in the center of Kashmir, Yusmarg is a lesser-known gem that is unquestionably one of the top destinations for people looking for peace and quiet. Yusmarg is a quaint village that possesses a magical charm and breathtaking natural beauty that can captivate anyone. The idea that Jesus Christ previously resided in this heavenly place is supported by the name, which translates to “The Meadow of Jesus.” Picture yourself in a huge meadow covered in a profusion of wildflowers, with tall pine and fir trees strewn about the edge. Glancing farther, the stunning Pir Panjal mountain range comes into view, its snow-capped peaks sparkling in the sunlight. Yusmarg is a painter’s canvas brought to life! 

8. Gurez Valley

In the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Gurez is a lesser-known hill station that hasn’t yet been overrun by tourists. Simultaneously, as an incredibly exotic setting, it has achieved extraordinary popularity among professional tourist enthusiasts and worldwide photographers. It is one of the Must Visit Places in Kashmir.

In actuality, the Gurez Valley is located in two districts rather than just one. Among these is the well-known Dawar area, which is home to the majority of Gurez’s tourist attractions. There is a natural wetland next to the now-defunct Dawar ancient town. Although it’s a lovely location, novices shouldn’t attempt to negotiate the swamp itself. 

A mountainous environment can be made more charming by its enchanted surroundings, snow-capped peaks, turquoise-colored lakes, rushing rivers, and scenic valleys. Even the Tulail Valley deserves this respect because of its numerous magnificent qualities, which rank it among India’s top tourist sites. Gurez’s Tulail Valley is a well-known valley. Within this valley lives a community populated by the native Shina and Dard tribes.

10. Pulwama 

Turning the pages of the big book of Kashmir, let’s discover Pulwama, a lesser-known but no less fascinating chapter. Adventurers seeking to explore the rich cultural legacy and stunning natural surroundings of Pulwama, tucked away in the ethereal splendour of Kashmir, should not miss it. 

Pulwama, sometimes referred to as the “Dudha-Kul of Kashmir” because of its plentiful milk supply, presents a magnificent panorama of undulating meadows and expansive saffron fields. But Pulwama has more to offer than simply breathtaking scenery, ancient monuments like the Avantishwar Temple serve as reminders of the area’s illustrious past. 

The vibrant apple orchards near Pulwama are yet another breathtaking sight. In the autumn, the town is painted a vivid shade of red and green as the orchards flush with an abundance of apples.
