The Tea Capital of North India is a Town located in Kangra region of Himachal pradesh. At an elevation of 6238 Ft Palampur is considered as a perfect location for cultivation of Tea Plants. The City became famous when in 1849 Dr Jameson one of the Supervisor of Botanical studies introduced Tea plantation in this Area. Due to favourable weather conditions and fertile land helped in increased production of high quality tea and Palampur became the focal point for European Tea Producers. It also became the centre of labourers engaged in tea leaves plucking, packing, and transportation.

But after the 1905 earthquake everything was destroyed and the majority of factories shifted to Assam. Again with The growth of tea estates from the mid-19th century urged the administration to improve Infrastructure and do reconstruction in Palampur. Still Some of the big Tea estates Like Wah Tea Estate, Bundla Tea Estate, Palampur Co Operative Tea factory and Few others are still producing The famous Kangra Tea.

The upper area of Palampur receives heavy snowfall in winters making it a perfect spot for snow lovers.

Saurabh Van Vihar-  Forest park Named after Late capt Saurabh Kalia a brave Indian Army officer who gave his life during Kargil war. This van vihar is just 4 Km from Palampur. A perfect place for a family outing. Park offers something for every age group.

Baijnath Shiva Temple- One of oldest temples of Lord Shiva believed to be constructed in 12th century is just 16 km from the city.

Tashi Jong Buddhist Monastery. This beautiful Buddhist monastery is a must visit. A perfect place to enjoy authentic Tibetan food.

 Birni Devi Temple At an altitude of 2240 metres, this is also an old temple that can be reached only by trekking.

Shri Chamunda Devi Mandir- One of the famous and historic temples is just 20 Km from Palampur. Thousands of people visit every year to seek the blessings of goddess chamunda.

 Bir and Billing-  A paradise for adventure sports lovers, especially paragliding. Bir Billing is famous all over the world and it’s just 35 Km from Palampur. Few people know about the buddhist monastery in Bir.

Neugal Khad( 2 km from Palampur) Neugal Khad provides a fine view of the Dhauladhar range. It’s roaring in the  stormy season and gurgling all time round. Himachal Tourism cafe provides food and a view from its  eatery. It’s a  fun and games spot.

Palampur Tea Gardens- Tea Garden are the reason Palampur is so famous in India. Some of the Oldest Tea gardens Like Wah estate and Bundla Tea estate are must visit places. The tea estate produces the famous Kangra Tea. 

 Bundla Stream and Tea Estate  Water stream feeding the tea plantation is a delight to watch and feel the marvels of nature.

Andretta– Home of famous Punjabi painter Late Sobha Singh in palampur is a must visit for art lovers. Sobha Singh’s Art Gallery is also  located in Andretta.  

Gopalpur Zoo( 14 km from Palampur) This zoological park is also known as Dhauladhar Nature Park. Developed by the H.P government, is a perfect  place for family picnics. 

Jakhni Mata Mandir- An Old Hindu Temple in Palampur devoted to Mata Jakhni. It’s located near Birni Devi Temple at Chandpur Village near Palampur.

Palampur is a perfect vacation destination throughout the year, weather is pleasant to cold, only monsoon season should be avoided due to heavy rainfalls and landslides in the area. SpiceJet and Air India operates regular flights from New Delhi to Kangra Airport which is just 40 km from Palampur- The Tea Capital Of North India. Air India is operating a direct flight from Chandigarh Airport to Kangra Airport.

 By Train 

Palampur is connected by the narrow gauge Rail Line. Nearest station in Kangra Valley.

 Road Transport

Palampur is accessible by road to all major cities and  municipalities in and around the state. Pathankot- Mandi National Highway 154( India)( Old NH 20) is the major  trace that passes through Palampur. Himachal Road Transport Corporation( HRTC) runs Bus service from major metropolises like Delhi and Chandigarh.
