Visiting Chitkul The Last Village Of India In winters
Winter Road-trip To Spiti Valley
Welcome to day 3 of our winter spiti 2023 trip, sangla to chitkul in winters, roads and mountains are covered with thick layer of fresh snow and driving on such roads requires real skills but same time its very dangerous. Once we reached Chitkul from Sangla, that spell bound view just amazed us. Weather in Chitkul was extremely cold and we had to wear thick layers of warm clothes.
Chitkul is the last village on the Indo Tibet Border located on the banks of Baspa River in Baspa Valley in Kinnaur region of Himachal Pradesh. Old houses built with either slate or wooden plank roofs are simply mesmerising. During winters it mostly stays covered with a thick layer of snow which adds to the natural beauty of this village. Mathi temple situated in Chitkul is believed to be 500 years old and also Chitkul is the last point of Kinner Kailash parikrama, which shows religious importance of this village.
Distance of Chitkul from Sangla is just 28 KM but due to snow and black ice on road it took around two hours to reach. Its not that easy to travel sangla to Chitkul in winters.
We were amazed by the beauty of nature. Sangla is a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains on the banks of river Baspa. It is one of the most beautiful locations I have ever visited in my life. Rakcham is also a famous location for bouldering, this we came to know while chatting with locals. Many famous rock climbers visit rakcham from all over the world.
Hope You will enjoy high quality cinematic shots, amazing views. This is glimpse of winters in kinnaur region of Himachal Pradesh. Do share your thoughts in comments.
