State came into existence in 2000 by separation from the state of Uttar Pradesh. Uttarakhand shares its state border with Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana and International border with Tibet and Nepal. The state is divided majorly in two divisions of Kumaon and Gharhwal and most of the area of state is located on Himalayas. Ganga and Yamuna are two major rivers in the state catering the water needs.  

The state in local language is referred as the DevBhoomi or Land of God’s due to its religious history and importance. Resulting in flash floods and landslides, So it is recommended that travelling during this period should be avoided.
